Behcet's Arthritis

Abstract
Since 1937, after the Turkish dermatologist Hulshi Behect first described the symptom complex, recurrent orogenital ulcer with relapsing ocular inflammation, Behcet's disease was well known to us. Behcet's disease involves systemic organs such as
cardiovascualr, nervous, and gastrointestinal system. The disease process especially involves the joints which are frequently confused with rheumatoid arthritis, was appealing to many orthopaedic surgeons. We experienced 57 cases of Behect's
arthritis
from Jan. 1990 to Dec. 1991.
@ES After review of each case by chart and personal interview, we report our results as follows;
@EN 1. There were no preponderence of sex and the most prevalent age groups were 3rd and 4th decades.
2. Knee joint was the most common site involved (56 of 57 cases), and multiple involvement was common(52.6%).
3. Clinically, nonspecific findings such as pain, tenderness, and joint swelling was the common symptoms only.
4. According to Shimizu classificiation, incomplete type was the most common(68.4%).
5. In radiological, laboratory and immunological studies were nonspecific.
6. Symtoms improved after conservative treatment, but 12 cases(21.0%) recurred within one years.
7. Histological finding looked like as rheumatoid arthritis, and lymphocytic vasculitis was noted.
